Family is a lot of things. Earlier this week, I asked Facebook?what they?d say: ?Family is _____________.? Everyone has a different thought. Love. Home. Crazy. A gift from God? Biological families may have a slightly different take on this blank line than a family that?s been brought together through adoption or foster care ? but however it comes, the word FAMILY evokes strong emotions in all of us.
Last week, 2 new Home of Hope families met each other for the first time in Haiti. It?s a pretty monumental day in the lives of kids who?ve lost their first family ? or whose first family had no means to care for them. One of these little boys may have a new definition of family now?
This little guy was brought to the Cancer Redemption Site, where 4 Home of Hope families are now full of life and love. A day earlier, most of the other kids were brought to their new home. He was a day later, and walked into a flurry of activity. He went inside and saw his new brothers and parents ? and sat quietly in an empty chair at the table. Before he could blink, a brother had his arm around him. Although they were both newly adopted into the family, this brother knew the gift he was sharing ? acceptance. He talked to him like there was no question in the world that they were going to be best buds ? brothers ? from now on.
I think if we?d ask him this week, he?d say family is something like acceptance. No questions asked. Just unconditional love for each other. He?s been fully adopted into this family, and all of those new brothers know it. Praise God for moving in these new families and for the way these new brothers are able to share their new gifts with each other!
Take Action: We?re blessed to be providing a total of 16 Home of Hope families in Haiti. Learn more about you can sponsor one of these families here.?
